The Death Of A Surrender

Filed under: Poetry — by Zuhair @ 8:11 am

Taking a deep breath

I revealed my soul;

bared it all for you.

Gave it up to you. Gave it up to you whole.

Expecting you to carry

me gently

into a world I wouldn’t

dare venture alone. Dare venture in solitary.

Shutting my eyes,

letting go of fear.

I bared it all for you.

Gave it up to you. Gave it up to you, do you hear?

You wrenched it from me

disregarding what I had done for you

or what you could have done for me

and just like that. And just like that, for you……

My dream ended.

It was no longer mine.

It was now yours.

It was gone. It was gone and I was blind.

Depression, worry, regret,

blame; all pointed at you

but it was by no fault of yours.

This I have come to realize because I love you.

Eyes still shut.

Still taking deep breaths

because I bared it all for you;

gave it up to you at the risk of many private deaths.
